LAPD Officers Arrest Man Involved in Hit And Run On East Jemez Road

A 33-year old Espanola man racked up eight charges Nov. 17 after an alleged hit and run incident on East Jemez Road in Los Alamos.

Fernando War was charged with failure to submit immediate notice of an accident, aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and open container.

Los Alamos Police Officers responded to reports of a hit and run on  East Jemez Road. The reporting party told the officers that a white Chevy passenger car had struck his vehicle and was proceeding towards White Rock at a high rate of speed.

LAPD Cpl. Jack Casias located the vehicle at Hwy. 4 and Rover Boulevard in White Rock. Casias noted that War had bloodshot eyes and was emitting an odor of alcohol. Casias observed that War used the vehicle to balance as he exited. Cpl. John Harris administered field sobriety testing and subsequently placed War under arrest. As he searched War, Harris found a small metal pill container in his pocket containing Syboxone strips.

Casias located a partially consumer bottle of vodka on the front passenger floorboard. A container of marijuana wax was located in the center console and a clear and red grinder was found in the rear passenger compartment according to the statement of probable cause.
