The UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) My Favorite Lecture Series 2026 is hosting The Continuing Relevance of the Federalist Papers: The Science (and Art) of Politics, on Monday, April 13, from 4:30-6 p.m. at SALA Event Center in Los Alamos. The lecture will be presented by Brent Pickett, Ph.D., who is dean of instruction at UNM-LA.
Pickett attended Wichita State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science Then, he attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, earning a master’s and Ph.D., also in political science. He served as assistant professor at Chadron State College (CSC) in Nebraska, eventually going on to serve as the social science department chairperson, honors program director and was promoted to associate professor. After nine years at CSC, Pickett took a position leading the University of Wyoming’s sole branch campus, in Casper. He had that position for 14 years before becoming UNM-LA’s dean of instruction.
