Los Alamos Photo Club Issues Call For Entries For 30th Annual Los Alamos Photographers’ Show

LOS ALAMOS PHOTO CLUB NEWS RELEASE

The Los Alamos Photo Club (LAPC) announces their annual photo show, Friday April 3 through Wednesday May 6, in Step Up Gallery on the upper level of the Mesa Public Library.

Entries will be accepted from anyone who lives or works in Los Alamos County or the surrounding area. There is generally no limit to the number of entries one may submit. However, if the available display space will not accommodate all entries, entries from Photo Club members will have preference.

Nevertheless, each entrant will be able to display at least one photo. Space availability may be an issue this year. The Club will make every effort to accommodate all entries. Note, however, that an entry containing multiple images will be counted as the number of entries equal to the number of images. Please avoid entering photography that you have recently shown at Step Up Gallery.

There are several changes in arrangements for this year’s Photo Show. Please read this carefully. In particular, this year the Club will reserve a space for a dedication to a long-time member Hal Davis. A selection of his images will be displayed on the pillar referred to as #1 in the Step Up Gallery. See the map of the Gallery below.

A complete copy of this Call for Entries, including the Supplemental Information referred to below may be found at: https://groups.io/g/lapc/wiki. For clarification of any information in the call, send an email to laphotoclubshow@yahoo.com.

How to Enter

Send entry information by Thursday, March 26 to laphotoclubshow@yahoo.com with the subject line: “Description of entries for 2026 LAPC show by [name of photographer”. For convenience, it is desired that the entry information be included in the body of the e-mail and not in a separate document such as a Word document or PDF.

For each photo you wish to enter, include the following on separate lines.

  • Your Name (Required): e.g. Jane Doe
  • Title (Required): e.g. Red Rocks of Los Alamos
  • Brief Description (Optional): e.g. Shot with Canon 20D, ISO 100, f/8 on December 25, 2024
  • Sale Price or NFS (if you do not list a sale price, we will assume Not for Sale). Be aware that sales of your photos are NOT handled by the gallery managers or any other library staff member. Your contact info is included so that potential buyers can contact you directly.
  • Your contact: e-mail and/or phone number (required if your entry is for sale; otherwise, optional)
  • Your web site (Optional)
  • Priority for hanging (Required): e.g. 1, 2, 3, … See information below for mounting and hanging instructions.
  • Frame Size (Required): e.g. 12 by 16 inches

Note that there will be NO Photo Club, Step Up Gallery, Mesa Public Library or Los Alamos County insurance coverage for photos in the gallery if they are damaged or stolen during the exhibit. If you wish to have your entries insured, you must supply your own insurance.

The club will provide a 4” by 5” display label for each entry using the above information. On occasion, the information about an image the entrant wishes to include may not fit on the label. In that event, entrants are encouraged to create their own additional label up to 8.5” wide by 5.5” tall to place below the photo. It must be created on a computer and printed on white card stock and squarely cut.

Entrants are encouraged to provide a bio/artist statement to accompany their photos. Guidelines for this statement are found in the Supplemental Information below. Images are accepted on print-quality paper, canvas, acrylic, glass, wood, and metal.

Please note, photo tiles will not be accepted and that all paper prints must be framed unless they are mounted with the Xposer mounting system. All entries must have a wire across the back of the framed photo or a way to hang it upon the 1/4” wide hook supplied by the Gallery. On the back of each picture place your own label with your name, phone number, email address and the title. Please include your ranking of #1, #2, #3, etc. This ranking will help us if we need to limit the number of photo entries.

After you submit your entry information, you should receive a confirmation e-mail within a few days or at the latest by Thursday, March 26, 2026. If you do not receive a confirmation by March 26, please e-mail John Sarracino at laphotoclubshow@yahoo.com with the heading “Please confirm receipt of my entries”.

Entrants may provide a location in the Gallery they prefer to have their photos hung in. Requests will be honored if possible. A map of the Gallery is part of the Supplemental Information and at` https://groups.io/g/lapc/wiki. Please note the space(s) reserved for Hal Davis’ photo entries.

Photo Show Book

For the past decade, entry into the Los Alamos Photography Club show has entitled each entrant to have some of their pictures published in the Portfolio Book.  If you are unfamiliar with the books, you can see one here.

By entering your images in the show, you will automatically receive an e-mail solicitation to submit electronic versions of your images for the book that will contain instructions on how to do so.

Gallery Information

Note that the show will be open April 3 to May 6, 2026, according to the library hours, which are currently 10 a.m.–8 p.m., Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday, and 1–5 p.m., Sunday.

At present there is a 75-person limit on how many people can be in the gallery at once. Los Alamos County may impose a different limit, possibly at short notice. And, although you are not required to wear a mask in the gallery, it may be prudent, especially if you are a vulnerable person.

Village Arts offers a 15% discount on full framing of photos for the show as well as a 10% discount for mattes alone. For them to have time to fulfill your order, particularly if you wish to have it framed, please bring your order to Village Arts by March 14, 2026.

Note that this year framing and matting may be limited to stock on hand. Should you be unable to meet this deadline, please contact Village Arts directly. They are located at 216 DP Road, Los Alamos. Their phone number is (505) 661-2526.

Supplemental Information

Preferred photo location. Entrants can provide a location in the Gallery they prefer to have their photos hung in. Requests will be honored to the extent possible. Here is a map of the Gallery. It is oriented with approximate North to the right on the map. Note the few locations that are not available for hanging photos. If you want to ask for a particular location for your photos, please specify it in reference to this map. For example, “On the window side of column 3” would request your photos to be hung on the West side of the column numbered 3. Alternatively, you can print the map and mark it with the location you prefer for your photos (bring it in with your photos). Please note Column #1 is currently reserved for Hal Davis’ images

Bio/Artist Statement

A new opportunity for this year’s Photo Show is to have a Bio/Artist Statement printed to accompany your photos. The Bio/Artist Statement would be hung with your photos. This is a completely optional opportunity for you to publicize your photographic background and skills.

If you would like to have a Biography posted, please submit a single page double spaced in WORD or plain text form, and your picture as a jpeg file to Diane Stoffel by March 17. Submit by email to: diane@stepupgallery.org. Please include that the email is for the Bio/Artist Statement for the 2026 LAPC Photo Show. If you had a Bio last year that you are satisfied with, please email Diane that you will be using last year’s Bio.
