Los Alamos Police Department gives a retirement escort for it’s retiring officers complete with sirens and flashing lights from the police station to their home as a symbolic transition from the officer’s law enforcement life back to their private life. On Monday, March 2, despite delays due to a traffic accident on the Main Hill Road, Cmdr. Daniel Roberts was escorted to his White Rock home by many of his fellow officers. He was accompanied by his wife Kim and their two children and met at his home by his parents, sister, and in-laws as well as neighbors and family friends.
Outside his home, Cmdr. Roberts radioed in to dispatch for his ending tour of duty at which time the dispatcher broadcasted a tribute over the radio thanking him for his 16 years of service before he “signed off” for the last time. It was an honor for the Reporter to be invited to this momentous occasion.
Earlier in the day, colleagues gathered for a celebratory luncheon at the department.
