Anyone interested in performing in the PRIDE Rocky Horror shadow cast in June or to join the production to help with tech, makeup, costumes, choreography, or one of many other essential tasks is invited to fill out a form here. Auditions will be held through March 15. Those who submit the form will be contacted with an audition time and location. Please note that performers must be 21 or older.
Auditioning involves lip syncing — with energy! — to a song from the Rocky Horror Picture Show and dancing the Time Warp. Don’t worry; the director will teach the moves.
“This is a fun production to participate in that is a lower commitment than a full-stage play,” Director Alex DiBranco said. “It’s geared toward both brand-new and experienced performers.”
The shadow cast is a long-standing tradition in which performers learn lip sync and choreography while the movie plays with sounds behind them.
In the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show, sweet, innocent, newly married Brad (Barry Bostwick in the film) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) blow a tire during a storm. They stop for help at the nearby castle of the charismatic Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry). He’s not alone. Brad and Janet encounter Riff Raff, Magenta, and many other delightful and vicious characters, including Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s latest creation: a muscle man named Rocky.
Shadow-cast performances usually generate lots of audience participation as well from fans of the film. Past productions in Los Alamos have drawn big audiences, full of their own costumes, props, and good, loud voices.
