SANGRE DE CRISTO CHORALE NEWS RELEASE

The Sangre de Cristo Chorale will perform its next concert, Petition, on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 in Santa Fe. Both concerts will be at 4 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe. Celebrating its 48th season, the 52-voice Chorale is led by Music Director George Case and accompanied by pianist Deborah Wagner.

The centerpiece of this concert of sacred music is Felix Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer for soprano, chorus and piano, with text from Psalm 55. Hayden Eberhart will be featured as the soprano soloist. The concert also includes other works from the 19th century by Mendelssohn, Robert Lucas Pearsall, and Anton Bruckner, as well as music of Henry Purcell and Maurice Duruflé.

In describing this concert, Music Director George Case states, “The 19th century was a heyday for choral singing. Amateur singing societies and avocational music education were prevalent and, consequently, there is a treasure trove of choral music written during this period. Many of the great composers who wrote huge choral/orchestral masterpieces brought their formidable talents to bear on ‘miniature’ pieces. These pieces have the same craft and power as the masterworks such as Mendelssohn’s Elijah or the Bruckner symphonies. Mendelssohn’s Hear my prayer is a glorious example of this and includes the beloved soprano solo ‘O for the Wings of a Dove.’ We look forward to sharing this concert of beautiful music with our audience.”

Tickets cost $30 for adults and students under 18 are free. Tickets are available online at sdcchorale.org. The First Presbyterian Church is located at 208 Grant Avenue in Santa Fe.

The mission of the Sangre de Cristo Chorale is to entertain, educate, unite, and inspire singers and audiences by performing great choral music. Founded in 1978, the Sangre de Cristo Chorale is among the longest continually performing independent chorales in New Mexico and performs diverse choral music for the educational and artistic enrichment of the audience, the community, and its members.
