LOS ALAMOS ARTS COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE
The Los Alamos Arts Council is staying busy again this March! Kite Festival is drawing closer, afterschool art is thriving, and soon our gallery will have more weekend hours. Here’s a snapshot of what we have coming up, and remember you can always find updated events on our website: www.LosAlamosArtsCouncil.org/Events-2-1
● Volunteer Get Together Friday, March 13: To prepare for our year of cultural programming, we invite our community to our first volunteer get together! Learn about how you can help sustain arts and culture programming in your community even beyond helping with Kite Festival and Pumpkin Glow. Drop-in at the Fuller Lodge Art Center (2132 Central Ave) any time between 10 AM – 12 PM on Friday March 13. Tea and snacks will be provided. For more info, reach out to Info@LAAC-FLAC.org
● After school art studios now five days a week: After School Art Studios are a fun, low-pressure way to get kids’ creative energy flowing. Supported by a grant from the Los Alamos Community Foundation and Anchorum Community Health, these studios let kids and teens explore their own interests with guidance from our Studio Coordinator, Hannah R. In March and moving forward, studios will be offered Monday-Friday. (No studios currently offered March 23-April 3, though we hope to have more availability these days soon.) Students can bring their own projects, use our supplies, or show up with an idea and get support from staff and peers. We are also now offering ‘punch cards’ (available in sets of 3, 6, or 10) for ease of signing up. For more and to sign up, check out our website: https://shop-co-105276.square.site/product/community-art-programs- after-school-art-studios-punch-cards/KGVFZ4ZWA34XRYSOOV5O7BN6?

● Adult art education continues: We continue to offer art classes and studio space for adults, featuring classes on sewing, ceramics (both wheel and ceramic tiles,) figure painting, and book binding. For more and to sign up, check out our website: https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/adulteducation

● Daytime Performance Series: As part of the Daytime Performance Series, the Los Alamos Arts Council is sponsoring a guest lecture (with some concert elements) at Fuller Lodge on Wednesday, March 11 from 12-1 p.m. Come down and learn about Mozart!

● Preorder a Kite Festival Shirt: Every year LAAC gives away hundreds of T-shirts to local youth who build and fly kites with us at Overlook Park. This year, we won’t be able to order as many shirts as we have in the past. We will still have more than 100 free shirts on site, but to guarantee your kiddo gets a shirt in their size, we are offering pre-orders to help us offset material and labor costs this year. To find out more and preorder before March 5, check out our website: https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/kite-festival-26
● Just want to meet fellow artists? Come on down to Bathtub Row Brewing Co-Op on the first and third Sunday of every month (March 1 and 14) from 4-5 p.m. for community favorite Crafts & Drafts. Bring your own art supplies, or we will have a tub of crafts. Please no paints, glues, or messy crafts; our goal is to hang out, spend some time together on our hobbies, and not leave a big mess for the Tub crew. Free and open to the public (over 21.)
We hope to see you soon!
