HCH NEWS RLEASE
Effective March 1, 2026, For more than 25 years, Taos Orthopaedic Institute (TOI) has provided trusted orthopedic care to the Taos community. Dr. Dan Guttmann and Dr. Sean Marvil have long served patients throughout the region and state of New Mexico, with surgical procedures performed at Holy Cross Hospital. Beginning March 1, 2026, Holy Cross Medical Center will take over clinic operations at TOI, further strengthening and expanding access to orthopedic services close to home.
Dr. Guttmann and Dr. Marvil will continue providing the high-quality orthopedic care the community has come to know and trust. In addition, Holy Cross is expanding the orthopedic program by adding new surgeons to broaden the range of specialty services available locally.
As part of this expansion, Holy Cross is increasing access to specialty foot and ankle surgical services in the region. Foot and Ankle Fellowship trained orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Robert Leland and Dr. Alejandro Miranda will be providing these services. Foot and ankle care available locally will include total ankle replacement, sports related injuries such as ankle instability and achilles tendon conditions, foot and ankle arthritis, fracture care, flat foot and high arch correction, bunion surgery, tendon repair, and revision procedures.
In April, Holy Cross will also welcome Dr. Sean Griggs, a fellowship trained orthopedic hand, wrist and elbow surgeon who will begin offering services in Taos. This will include providing fracture care for the elbow, forearm, wrist and hand, along with trauma and chronic arthritis conditions. This further expands the range of advanced orthopedic care available in the region.
“Dr. Guttmann and Dr. Marvil have been trusted leaders in orthopedic care for our community for over 25 years, and we are incredibly excited to bring Taos Orthopaedic Institute into the Holy Cross Medical Center family of care,” said James Kiser, Chief Executive Officer of Holy Cross Medical Center. “TOI and the specialty care they provide have long been invaluable to our region. By aligning clinic operations with Holy Cross, we can build on that strong foundation, support the physicians who already serve this community, and expand access to additional specialized services.”
Director Dr. Dan Guttmann adds, “Taos Orthopaedic Institute is a center of excellence for sports medicine, arthroscopy, joint replacement, & orthopedic surgery. It is a privilege to help serve our community.”
Sue Romansky, Chief Operating Officer of Holy Cross Medical Center, added, “Having access to specialty services like foot and ankle reconstruction and hand surgery right here in Taos is truly remarkable. Patients should not have to travel long distances for advanced orthopedic care, and this expansion makes a meaningful difference for the health and comfort of our community.”
