LAPD NEWS RELEASE
The International Union of Police Associations (IUPA) has featured Los Alamos Police Corp. James Keane, the Los Alamos Middle School resource officer, in its newsletter in a story about how he helped raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“Local Los Alamos Police Association, #14 Member SRO Corporal Keane along with kids from a local school and the help of a little goat raised money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!
“Los Alamos County Police Department shared about it on social media, “Corporal Keane is the G.O.A.T.! Doing his part with Los Alamos Middle School to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. They raised around $800!!!”
“SRO Corporal Keane provided more details, “Los Alamos Middle School’s Student Council recently organized a spirited, school-wide fundraiser to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A small student committee narrowed a slate of charities and presented options to the full council. According to student leaders, the vote was overwhelming: the council chose St. Jude for its work supporting children and families facing serious illnesses. Teachers, staff, and school personnel volunteered to participate by signing up for donation jars. During the designated one-week drive, students and staff placed jars in the cafeteria and encouraged donations through posters and morning announcements.”
“The top three staff members who collected the most money earned the reward of kissing a goat during lunch — a crowd-pleasing tradition that helped boost participation. Student council advisors praised the campaign for its student-led planning and strong community involvement. “This fundraiser showed how much our students care,” said one advisor. “They planned every step, reached out to the staff, and rallied the whole school for a great cause.”
“SRO Corporal James Keane, who was one of the three selected to kiss the goat, appreciated the students asking him to participate, “Being able to engage with students, staff, and the community for such a good cause helps strengthen the relationship between our department, the school district, and the entire community we serve. I was grateful for the opportunity.”
“The fundraiser accumulated $788 which was donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“Per St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s website, “The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.”
