Shawn Michael Cavasos, 35, of Los Alamos has been charged in Los Alamos Magistrate Court with criminal sexual penetration of a child aged 13-16, abandonment or abuse of a child, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The criminal complaint filed by Los Alamos Police Det. Sgt. Ryan Wolking Jan. 7 indicates that the criminal sexual penetration occurred between December 23 and December 29, 2025. The abandonment or abuse of a child charge relates to Cavasos allegedly placing a gun to his head and pulling the trigger in front of the child on December 28, 2025 at his Los Alamos residence.

Cavasos is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor related to references in text messages in the victim’s cellphone relating to “alcohol and weed messaging” from July 2025.

Court documents filed by Det. Sgt. Wolking indicate that the juvenile victim in the case “allegedly engaged in two illegal sexual relationships”, one with a 20-year old female named Kyrina Deschamps. and the other with Cavasos.

The Court documents allege that in an interviews with Wolking on December 31, 2025, Deschamp admitted to providing the juvenile victim with “cocaine, molly, and alcohol which they consumed together”. Wolking’s affidavit for issuance of an arrest warrant for Cavasos states that Deschamp told him that she and the juvenile victim had sexual relations “more times that she could count” from July 4, 2025 to December 2025. Wolking said he notified Deschamp that she would be criminally charged with a summons in the near future. Wolking said he did not arrest her during the interview since the investigation was ongoing at that time and he didn’t “want anything made public”.

Det. Sgt. Wolking and Det. Cindy Garcia have documented 27 pages of the victim’s journal very detailed entries pertaining to Deschamp and Cavasos. They also retrieved evidence from the child’s cellphone.

Late on Friday, Jan. 9, Wolking filed five counts of criminal sexual penetration against Deschamp stating that the five counts cover sexual intercourse occurring between her and the victim in July, August, September, October and November.

“During these months, sexual intercourse occurred many times, but five counts covers the dating relationship time period,” Wolking’s statement of probable cause notes.

Deschamp was also charged with one ount of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, which Wolking said is appropriate for all the times Deschamp provided the victim with drugs, His affidavit notes that although Deschamp admitted to providing the victim with drugs five or six times, the one count “will cover those transactions”.

Cavasos had his “first appearance” in Magistrate Court Thursday, although neither he or Magistrate Judge Catherine Taylor were actually present in the courtroom. He was to be released on his own recognizance with a remote breath testing device and have no contact with any minor in addition to standard conditions of release.

Deschamp is slated for her first appearance Jan. 26.
