Obituary: Leland Standord Lehman June 16, 1947 – Dec. 11, 2025

Leland Stanford Lehman, 78, of Los Alamos, NM, a proud Army veteran who served in Vietnam, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Leland “Lelo” served as a rifleman with Company B, 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division from July 1967 to June 1969, achieving the rank of Sergeant. While in Vietnam, he participated in several campaigns receiving honors to include the Bronze Star with Device for Valor for heroism in the Kien Hoa Province and the Air Combat Medal with Clusters.

Born on June 16, 1947, in Santa Fe, NM, to Charles A. Lehman Sr. and Marylee B. Lehman, Lelo attended Los Alamos Public Schools. Lelo was proud to have done his duty to help defend the freedom of citizens across this country and was a member of the American Legion for 57 years. He was the American Legion Post 90 Commander for four years and held other positions of authority.

Lelo is survived by his sister, Mary A. (Lehman) Salazar (John) of Albuquerque and numerous other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Lehman Sr. and Marylee B. Lehman and brother, Charles A. Lehman Jr.

A true patriot, Lelo’s legacy of courage, service, and love will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

An interment funeral with full military honors will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on December 30, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to veteran organizations and/or charities.

A celebration of life will be planned for a future date at the American Legion Post 90 in Los Alamos, NM, so that family and friends can come together in love and remembrance.
