CORO DE CAMARA NEWS RELEASE

Celebrate the holidays with Coro de Cámara in the chamber choir’s “Making Spirits Bright” concerts! Enjoy a cheerful blend of music featuring carols and holiday favorites, and lively performances that capture the spirit of the season. Coro and guests offer two showings on December 13 in Los Alamos and December 14 in Santa Fe, both at 4:00 p.m. Dancers from Dance Arts Los Alamos (DALA) join Coro in the Santa Fe concert, following Coro’s guest appearance the day before in the DALA Winter Showcase.

In “Making Spirits Bright,” you will delight in holiday music from around the world, including “Betelehemu (Nigerian Carol),” Spanish Renaissance carol “Ríu Ríu Chíu,” “This Little Babe” from Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, and “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano. Coro’s own Joe Cox shares his arrangement of the carol, “In Dulci Jubilo,” which contains, as he says, ‘an infectious Latin riff.’ Violist Kathy Gursky and Coro pianist Yelena Mealy will thrill with The Piano Guys clever mashup of “Let It Go” from Frozen and “Winter” from The Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi. Sopranos Megan Barham and Nina Lanza will also share a selection by Vivaldi – the “Laudamus te” duet from his lesser-known Gloria, R. 588.

Peter Bloser, a crowd favorite and a Coro bass, will be the holiday emcee, offering tasty music tidbits sure to make you the life of the party. Guest percussionist Eric Schaller returns, adding his rhythmic spice to Coro’s holiday music treats.

If you’ve ever wanted to sing with Coro de Cámara, now is your chance! We hope you’ll lend your voice to “Christmas in About 3 Minutes,” a fun, rapid-fire medley of holiday carols and songs—no experience required! A musical sleigh ride and other surprises are in store for you, all of which should raise your spirits.

For 37 seasons, Coro de Cámara has presented captivating music to northern New Mexico audiences. The group’s unique, thematic programs present a wide range of music, often with drama, storytelling, instruments, and dance.

The three programs of Coro’s 2025-26 Connections season aim to develop connections within our communities and with area arts groups and musicians. Coro’s fall performances of “Sharing Our Mental Health Stories” did just that, with 26 Coro musicians and 123 youth and adult musical guests from Los Alamos and Pojoaque participating in the program. Three mental health professionals conveyed important information to audiences, and many local organizations participated in our mental health fair. We raised almost $1000 for LAUNCH (Los Alamos Uniting for Community Health), helped bring awareness to mental health, shared where and how to get help, and provided encouragement and support for our mental health journeys. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with Coro and guests during the holidays. Purchase your “Making Spirits Bright” tickets now at corodecamara-nm.org or at the door. We look forward to celebrating with you!
