MAINSTREET NEWS RELEASE
Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District would like to thank all of the participants, float builders, Los Alamos County staff, and the thousands of attendees for their contributions in making this a fantastic Holiday Lights Parade!
With nearly 40 floats this year, it wasn’t easy to award only one float as Best In Show, so this year, MainStreet would like to recognize the following floats in three separate categories:
Best WinterFest Spirit goes to The Hill Stompers for their dazzling ensembles and their energetic holiday renditions, which provide the perfect kickoff for the parade every year!
Because we had many new entrants this year, we added the category of Best New Participant. The Atomic Follies, with their live music and enthusiasm, were memorable and enjoyable for all and won this category.
We would like to award Honorable Mention to the Los Alamos Medical Center who incorporated many New Mexican elements into their annual ‘Santa’s Sleigh’ float, including faralitos, chile pepper lights and inflatables on the back of the ‘sleigh’.
And finally, we would like to award the Los Alamos Police Department with Most on Theme for their ‘Coming in Hot and Spicy Hot Holiday Wishes’. Who knew armored vehicles and police officers could look so festive and fun in chile pepper costumes and lights?
The fun doesn’t stop after WinterFest weekend. Several dozen more events are listed at www.losalamosmainstreet.com/winterfest!
