Obituary: Larry Lee Marr June 5, 1952 – Nov. 24, 2025

Larry Lee Marr, 73, of Los Alamos, N.M., began his next journey on Monday, November 24, 2025, after a short hospital stay in Albuquerque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Marr.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Marr, and son, Tyler Marr.

Known by the nickname “Hawg” by many of his longtime friends and co-workers, Larry first retired from the New Mexico Air National Guard after 25 years of service, before retiring from the Los Alamos National Laboratory Hazmat Division. He always found ways to bring a little humor to his workplace among those who served and protected our communities. His laugh was contagious. Everyone had a story about Larry.

A 1970 graduate of Los Alamos High School, Larry also attended Eastern New Mexico University and UNM in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Besides his family, Larry loved his dog, Barkley, and a deer he named Bucky who often visited him each year. He loved his motorcycles and cars, especially his high school ‘57 Chevy and later, his prized Corvettes.

Larry was best known in the community of Los Alamos for his Christmas decorations, playing Santa every Christmas Eve, and handing out thousands of candy canes for many years. He loved spending Christmas Eve with all the wonderful people who stopped by and for the wonderful notes and gifts he received through the years. Playing Santa were some of Larry’s most cherished memories.

Larry’s family would like to thank the Los Alamos County Fire Department, Los Alamos Medical Center, and the best care ever from Bee Hive Homes in Albuquerque on the Westside. They were phenomenal. We also would like to thank all of Larry’s friends and his colleagues from LANL Hazmat who came to visit him during his last days to share stories and, of course, his favorite food, watermelon.

Funeral arrangements are pending for the spring of 2026.
