YMCA NEWS RELEASE

Día De Los Muertos Race Report: A Day Filled With Heart, Color, and Community

This year’s Día De Los Muertos Race pulsed with the kind of energy only Los Alamos can bring. 225 runners filled the Canyon Rim Trail and Los Alamos Co-op with color and celebration, and thanks to our community’s incredible support, the event raised over $12,000 — with over $8,000 going to benefit the families in the community, helping kids learn, grow, and thrive at the Y.

The Los Alamos Co-Op was buzzing from the moment the first vendor set up shop. Sixteen local vendors lined the space, turning the event into a full community festival. The Co-op grill squad kept the good vibes rolling with over 100 smash burgers, fueling runners, families, and community.

In true Día De Los Muertos spirit, the ofrenda became the quiet heart of the day. Families placed photos of loved ones and lit candles, creating a moving moment of remembrance and connection that grounded the celebration in meaning.

And our runners didn’t just walk away with memories—they walked away with generosity from across the county. Local businesses stepped up big with donated prizes from partners including: The Santa Fe Running Hub, Viola’s, Andrea Lynch, Honey Hour Beauty Bar, Samizdat, Los Alamos County Aquatic Center, Papa Murphy’s, Wolf & Mermaid, SweedieMiniMag, and La Cocina. Their gifts added excitement, but more importantly, they showed what community support looks like in action.

Events like this only work because people believe in the Y’s mission. Every runner, donor, vendor, sponsor, volunteer, and partner helped make this race more than a tradition—they made it a moment where the whole community came together to celebrate life, honor loved ones, and help local kids access opportunities they otherwise might not have. If there’s a better example of community strength, we haven’t seen it yet.

Thanks again for being part of this celebration!
