
Olin van Dyck was born on April 2, 1939, and passed away on November 5, 2025. A man of intelligence and charm, Olin lived a fulfilling life, touching many with his kindness and love.
Olin is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda van Dyck, their two children, Christopher van Dyck (Patty) and Stephanie Nakhleh (Charlie), and his cherished grandchildren, Emily Flores (Gabe), Julia Nakhleh (Juanmi Martinez), Eric van Dyck, and Aidan Nakhleh, great-granddaughter, Karine, and sister, Sara Chesluk.
Educated at Amherst College, Olin earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 1961. Following this, he achieved his Ph.D in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969. Olin was an accomplished physicist who started his career at the esteemed Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1973. Throughout his tenure, he was deeply admired by his colleagues for his dedication and aptitude. He mostly worked at LAMPF (Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility), but also served in Government Relations, making frequent trips to Washington, DC, to meet with New Mexico’s congressional delegates.
Olin was a lover of the outdoors, especially if he was on a bike. His range of outdoor activities includes road biking, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, soccer, camping, and sailing. Olin’s love for nature was mirrored in his favorite vacation spots, which included Ocean City, NJ, Switzerland, and Colorado. Locally, he frequently visited the Pajarito Mountain Ski Area. He also enjoyed a good game of Bridge and his Ham Radio
Olin will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He loved a good joke and enjoyed many adventures. His unwavering love for his family will remain in their hearts forever. His legacy will continue in the lives he touched and through the memories his loved ones will cherish.
