A charge of abuse of a child – first offense has been filed in Los Alamos Magistrate Court against Jordan Andrew Redmond, 42, of Los Alamos for allegedly placing a child in a dangerous situation that may endanger his life.
Court documents allege that Redmond left a Glock 42 .380 caliber handgun on his bed with a loaded magazine on the side, and that the 11-year old child “got the handgun and magazine and hid them in his backpack”. The criminal complaint filed by Los Alamos Police Det. Cindy Garcia states that two days later, Redmond dropped the child off at school (day of custodial exchange) and that the child had the handgun in his backpack to take to his mother’s house to conceal.
The child had possession of the handgun for 27 days until the mother located it October 21 in the child’s bedroom at her home.
“The defendant knew or should have known the danger involved and acted with reckless disregard for the child’s safety or health,” the complaint states.
Redmond has been the executive director of Los Alamos Family Council since 2019. A former Los Alamos Police Officer, he was terminated from that position in 2015.
The case is set for first appearance Nov. 17 before Magistrate Judge Catherine Taylor.
