I would like to thank the Los Alamos community for your support for the fight against Breast Cancer this year.
This is my 25th year raising funds for breast cancer research and treatment, and this year the community came out in force for multiple fundraising events such as the Yard Sale for Breast Cancer, the Concert for Breast Cancer, and Kick for the Cure.
In early June, numerous individuals donated toys, kitchen items, furniture, electronics, bedding, and clothing to be re-sold to raise funds. Additionally, many people shopped at the Yard Sale for Breast Cancer and not only bought yard sale items but also donated cash for the cause.
In June, July, and August, Sancre Productions and the Los Alamos Concert Series allowed me to have a fundraising booth on nonprofit row, and every concert Los Alamos County Council Chair Theresa Cull, or her son, stepped up on stage to encourage people to donate. And, Sancre Production’s Pablo Irlando-Wildman partnered with Christus St. Vincent to sponsor the June 27 Crazy Horse concert as a fundraiser for breast cancer.
Sept. 30, the Los Alamos County Council passed a proclamation declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Los Alamos. Council member Beverly Neal-Clinton, who lost her mother to breast cancer, presented the proclamation to breast cancer survivors Leslie Link, Chris Treml, and Council Chair Theresa Cull.
On Oct. 16, the Los Alamos Girls Varsity Soccer Team held their annual Kick for the Cure game, defeating the Moriarty Pintos 7-0, and under the guidance of soccer mom Ellen Burrows raised $474 for breast cancer research through a raffle, chances to kick against the goalie, and the JV players passing buckets through the stands. The effort was also supported by Ruben Garcia through his company Bar Graphix, printing shirts for the game and donating a portion of each shirt sale to the cause.
Also in October, Ridgeview Veterinary Hospital kept a fundraising bucket on their counter all month, encouraging their clients to help raise funds for the cure.
It is inspiring to see so many aspects of our community (residents, business, government & school athletics) working toward a common goal.
Every dollar Los Alamos donated will go directly to national nonprofit Susan G Komen for breast cancer treatment and research: to scientists searching for cures, to new treatments with fewer side effects, and to programs that support patients and their families at every step.
I will be walking in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day 60 mile walk in San Diego Nov. 14-16. My fundraising goal for this year is $10,000 and I am only $600 away from reaching my goal. If you would like to add your support (maybe $1 per mile for 60 miles, or whatever amount is meaningful to you), please donate at www.the3day.org/goto/Nancy2025.
Thank you again,
Nancy Partridge
