The 4th Annual Capitol Ford Santa Fe International Half Marathon (https://www.santafehalfmarathon.com/) returns Sept. 19 with new energy and expanded programming, transforming into a three-day festival of racing, wellness, and culture. Organized by Mwangaza Athletics Club (MAC), the 2025 event will feature a USATF-certified Half Marathon, the 3-Amigos Relay, a 4K Fitness Run/Walk, the Free Kids-K Dash, and—for the first time—a Health & Wellness Expo at Santa Fe’s historic Railyard.
Since its launch, the Santa Fe International Half Marathon has become New Mexico’s signature running event, drawing participants from across the U.S. and internationally. In 2024, more than 700 runners from 15 states joined the race, generating measurable tourism impact while showcasing Santa Fe’s unique culture, art, and high-altitude running terrain.
Organizers recognized the opportunity to grow beyond a race, creating a space where fitness, Indigenous and African cultural programming, and community storytelling intersect. Expanding into a festival weekend responds to the demand for more inclusive, family-friendly, and adaptive sports programming while strengthening Santa Fe’s positioning as a global wellness destination.
The 2025 festival includes:
Public Safety Relay Rivalry: Seven first responder teams — including City Fire, Police, Sheriff’s Office, and County Fire — compete for the Public Safety Trophy, currently held by Santa Fe Fire Department.
Half Marathon & Relay (Sept 21, 7:30 AM): Scenic point-to-point course from La Tienda Plaza in Eldorado to Santa Fe Railyard Park.
4K Fitness Run/Walk (Sept 21, 7:30 AM): Accessible race beginning and ending at Railyard Park.
Free Kids 1K Dash (Sept 20, 3:00 PM): Featuring storytelling and indigo-dye workshops led by Yoruba artist Gasali Adeyemo.
Adaptive Sports Inclusion: Guest ambassador Brad Ray, former U.S. Paralympic wheelchair racer, and speaker Andrew Copley spotlight accessibility and inclusive athletics.
Shuttle service is available for Half Marathon and Relay runners from Warehouse 21 (Railyard) to La Tienda Plaza, 5:30–6:30 AM on race morning.
Cultural Exchange: African Ngoma drumming every two miles, storytelling, and workshops introduce participants to global traditions.
Youth Empowerment: Kids-K and Expo activities create hands-on, cross-cultural learning experiences.
Community Benefit: Event proceeds support the Empower! Black Futures Community Fund (Santa Fe) and the Kitany Water Project in Kenya, which brings clean water to rural schools and clinics.
