BY DAVID HAMPTON
Candidate
UNM-LA Advisory Board
Dear Los Alamos County,
My name is David Hampton. After being appointed to fill a vacancy on the UNM-LA Advisory Board in 2024, I would like to continue the work I’ve done advocating for additional 4-year degrees and certifications, supporting dual credit for high school students, fundraising, and representing you at UNM-LA events such as graduation.
Beyond this, I have participated in the normal processes of budget and tuition endorsement, approving the Operating Agreement with UNM Albuquerque, chancellor and senior staff selection, bond campaigns, by-laws updates, and other items required of the Board.
On the subject of fundraising, the Advisory Board is currently working on building our endowments, receiving 1 for 1 matching from a Title 5 grant. If you support UNM-LA and value it as a critical local/regional institution, and have the means, please consider donating at this link:

My wife Lisa and I have raised 8 kids and are retired from LANL. Lisa and 3 of our kids have attended UNM. In addition to serving as Vice-Chair on the UNM-LA Advisory Board and attending most meetings since 2019, my passion for our community and for public service has resulted in me currently chairing the Los Alamos County Transportation and Personnel Boards. I am also serving as Treasurer and/or Secretary on the Los Alamos Arts Council, the Los Alamos Retirement Community, and the Amigos del Rancho Los Luceros. I have previously chaired the Los Alamos County Parks and Recreation Board as well as the Board of Registration, Vice-chaired the Planning and Zoning Commission, served as President of Los Alamos Cooperative Market Board, participated in the 2023 LAPS Bond Campaign, coached track and field at LAMS, and founded/coached an age-group track and field team in Los Alamos.
In my spare time, I garden at home, help maintain the Bee City Pollinator Demonstration Garden, and do trail work for Los Alamos County, the Forest Service, Bandelier, and the Valles Caldera.
Early voting starts on Oct. 7 and election day is Nov. 4. If you would like to vote by mail, you can request a ballot at this link before Oct. 22: https://portal1.sos.nm.gov/OVR/(S(tyngukxjgcnjtvsmypmxh4lv))/WebPages/AbsenteeApplication.aspx
Thank you Los Alamos and White Rock!
