The New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department Construction Industries Division has filed a complaint in Los Alamos Magistrate Court charging Cody Wade Licon of Placitas with contracting without a license – over $5,000.

The complaint , filed Monday, alleges that Licon, working under the name Renovations by Licon, LLC in December 2023 contracted with Los Alamos homeowners to demolish two bathrooms and install showers, drywall, fixtures, plumbing valves faucets and nobs as well as some electrical work. Other work included framing a door, installing a stove, relocating a refrigerator and building a cubby with shelves around the refrigerator. The work cost the homeowner more than $56,000.

The complaint also alleges that since the work was completed, many issues have surfaced, including electrical, ventilation and plumbing problems.

“Many employees of Licon have contacted the homeowners claiming that they were never paid. Materials purchased by the homeowners but were not used on the project have disappeared,” the complaint states.

Licon faces a possible misdemeanor charge and penalties of six months in the county jail and/or a fine of 10 percent of the contracting work done.

Licon’s arraignment is set for July 29 before Los Alamos Magistrate Judge Catherine Taylor.
