LOS ALAMOS MAKERS NEWS RELEASE

The community is invited to hear Los Alamos Makers member Liz Martineau present a free program, Oh, … I’m A Book Artist?, at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in Room 570 at Santa Fe Community College.

Martineau will share her winding journey combining sewing, quilting, and mixed media with bookmaking. Participants will explore various book structures and techniques adapted for use with fiber. These aren’t children’s books, they are mixed-media interactive art pieces. Books will be available for participants to explore in person immediately after the presentation.

Books will also be available to explore 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at Los Alamos Makers (1789 Central Ave. inside the Blue Window/Ruby K building). Supplies will be available during this time to create a book or travel journal using a pamphlet stitch. Stop by to explore books, meet other makers, and create art.

Martineau is a member of the Los Alamos Piecemakers, Los Alamos Makers, and the Santa Fe Book Arts Group. She is a quilter, weaver, knitter, bookmaker, and has also dabbled in gel printing, collage, leathercraft and jewelry-making. Martineau has taught classes at Los Alamos Art Center, Los Alamos Nature Center, and Los Alamos Teen Center. She works for the Los Alamos Community Foundation and believes in the power of community. She often uses art to bring people together.
