Los Alamos Football Club had a fantastic showing at the Mother’s day tournament on May 10-11 in beautiful Durango, CO. The U12 Boys (2013) LA Lions team continued their recent strong run by staying undefeated in 4 games and winning their Silver bracket on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday the Lions won their first game 5-2 against DC Force with strong performances from Zaiden McClellan (who scored a hat-trick!), Timothy Blair, and James Junghans. Armen Siranosian and Liam Colgan chipped in with a goal and an assist each.

In the second game, the Lions tied 1-1 with NM Flash in a hard-fought game, with Siranosian getting the crucial Lions goal after great forward play by McClellan. This set up the Lions for Sunday’s morning play, where they knew a win would put them into the championship game. The team responded superbly by beating Telluride 5-3, with McClellan getting 2 more goals and Brecken Hanson hitting a wonderful shot for the clinching goal.  In the final the Lions played DC Force again. The Lions simply stepped up a level, winning 4-0 in a dominant performance. McClellan, Hanson and Jase Strain all scored, and Armen Siranosian also added to his impressive goal tally for the season.

Overall the boys had a wonderful weekend. Kaleb Wilhoit excelled in goal, earning an impressive shut-out in the final. Noni Mendez was also a star in defense, alongside Strain, repeatedly snuffing out the opposition attacks. The team-work between the defense and midfield was a particular highlight for the coaches, with Elijah Montano and James Rushton also impressing.  In midfield Kyson Peterson, Colgan, Junghans and Noah Yeamans all had wonderful tournaments, bringing consistency to the midfield play. Jace Ellison and McClellan also stepped up their game in attack, never letting the opposing team settle through their focus and tenacity to get the ball back.

This 2013 group of boys has come together really well over the Spring 2025 season and the team looks forward to their Fall 2025 season in Duke City!
