STEP UP GALLERY NEWS RELEASE

Step Up Gallery is proud to host “The Quilt as Art”- works by members of the Northern New Mexico Quilt Guild (NNMQG.) The exhibit will be on display from May 8 through June 4. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception on Mother’s Day, May 11, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., with a gallery talk at 2:30 p.m.

Nearly two dozen artists will display work using non-traditional quilting techniques. The artists come from the NNMQG’s mini-groups- the Surface Design and Art Quilt group and the Contemporary group. These artists place the emphasis on composition, design and color, rather than on stitch length, traditional blocks and square corners. These quilts are, “Definitely a deviation from traditional quilts that are made to keep you warm!” said show chairperson Barbara Arguedas.

Step Up Gallery (https://stepupgallery.org) is on the top level of Mesa Public Library at 2400 Central Avenue in Los Alamos. The gallery is open the same hours as the library: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
