Well over 100 local residents attended Wednesday evening’s Public Engagement Listening Session for a North Mesa Recreation Master Plan at Cottonwood on the Greens to discuss the various uses and non-uses of the area. The area under discussion is 26-acres of open space, that is also referred to as FEMA-ville, that includes sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and more.

Attendees, a large number of them wearing bike helmets, listened to a presentation on how the master plan would be developed and went on to participate in roundtables discussion of their visions for the 26 acres and what they felt local recreation needs for all ages might be. The County’s consultant, Sites Southwest LLC, a landscaping architecture firm from Albuquerque, was on hand to lead the discussions.

“I am impressed with number of folks that turned out tonight to discuss recreation options for this parcel of land in our community. I was equally impressed to watch the respectful conversations between the variety of users that may have differing opinions,” Cory Styron, Los Alamos Director of Community Services told the Los Alamos Reporter. “I know we received a wealth of input tonight that will be used to create dynamic and exciting community space in Los Alamos.”

A virtual listening session is set for March 26 at 5:30 p.m. so that those who missed Wednesday’s in-person meeting. There is also an option to submit input at xxxxx
