County: Public Library Policy Revisions Adopted

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos Public Library is pleased to announce that Los Alamos County Council at their January 28 meeting voted to adopt revisions to the library policies. These updates, which were initiated in November 2023, went through a thorough review process by the Library Board and staff as well as by the County Attorney’s Office. The Library Board approved the draft revisions on October 7, 2024.

According to Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza the library policies help to define the role of the library in the community by:

  • Ensuring consistent service and fair treatment
  • Making sure that all applicable laws and codes are followed
  • Creating transparency and accountability for staff and for the public

Changes to the policies range from language updates and clarifications to the addition of new sections. Particular effort was made to bring library policies into alignment with County Administrative Guidelines. The revised policies can be viewed at LosAlamosLibrary.org under the ‘About the Library’ tab.
