COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
The Los Alamos County Ice Rink welcomed its new Zamboni in January 2024 with its black and teal colors. Between January and mid-May, the Recreation Division held part one of the Zamboni Naming contest inviting community members and those residing in surrounding areas to submit their ideas of what to name the Zamboni. Part one of the contest received over 200 ideas.
Part two of the Zamboni Naming began May 24 through August 24, where community members again were invited to vote for their favorite name out of the top 10 names selected by the Recreation Division submitted by people from 5 to 63 years old. The poll received more than 300 votes revealing the most popular name.
The new Zamboni is to be named “Luke Icewalker”. The name was submitted by Asher, age 5, who is a regular at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink during the winter season and plays hockey. Asher, along with his family, was presented with the prize of a free 10-visit punch pass for the Los Alamos Ice Rink 2024-2025 skating season and a remote-controlled cooler, with the name displayed, donated by the Zamboni company, at the August 30 Los Alamos Summer Concert at Ashley Pond Park.
