Dear Los Alamos County Councilors,
I would like to express my concern about retail cannabis potentially coming to Los Alamos.
I myself am a LANL employee, and I am concerned by the temptations that such businesses may cause for me, and for others. My daily commute passes the major commercial centers in town. How will I get home at night while driving past those cute little leaf logos? How do I stop myself from pulling over to sample their sweet smelling goods? And the gummies! I fear for my job. This whole town may lose their jobs. Up until now, cannabis has been almost non-existent in our community, but I fear this may suddenly change. Someone fetch me the smelling salts.
While I have your attention, I’d like to address one more concern I have: urology clinics. Personally, I am disturbed by the kinds of things that I can only imagine are happening inside them. More than half of Los Alamos residents have no need for these services anyway, and those who choose to visit such businesses could easily have those needs met in Santa Fe or Espanola.
The moral integrity of community such as ours is of the utmost importance. I believe we have a solemn duty to protect it.
Have a nice day,
Carrie Walker
