Don’t Support A Candidate That Fails To Do Her Homework

Dear Editor,

I am responding to the letter posted on Oct 22  supporting Nickole Aguilar Garcia. The following statements in bold have been made by Nickole Aguilar Garcia. Nickole Aguilar Garcia “takes the time to do her homework and fully understands the issues she supports.” According to the letter,  “Her focus is on these key platform issues: … 3. Reviving the work study and trades/vocational programs at the HS.

A simple glance at the current Los Alamos High School course catalog, shows that the following vocation opportunities exist at LAHS:

1. Building Trades, where students learn to build homes. From the course catalog: “The building trades program offers students a broad array of occupation skill competencies. Through the building trades program, students will receive training in carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical occupations. Each area taught within the building trades program has a different skill set. The building trades program offers students a broad array of occupation skill competencies. Each area taught within the building trades program has a different skill set.
2. There is a full program in culinary arts taught in a professional kitchen. The program leads to a national certification.
3. The is a child development program can lead to a certificate.
4. Fabric courses that can lead to employment.
5. Video production program that can lead to employment.
6. Auto repair as a career.

Apparently Nickole Aguilar Garcia did not look at the LAHS course catalog before making part of her platform: “Reviving the work study and trades/vocational programs at the HS.

Clearly she does not “She takes the time to do her homework and fully understands the issues she supports.”
Don’t let Nickole Aguilar Garcia convince you there is not a robust “work study and trades/vocational programs at the HS”.  Don’t support a candidate that fails to do her homework.

LAHS does a wonderful job educating kids to go to college AND to prepare them for careers that don’t require college.
