LWV NEWS

The League of Women Voters’ monthly event for the entire community will be August 19, via zoom (see below) from noon-1pm. Our guest speaker will be Amanda White who is the Watershed Monitoring & Technical Services Program Manager for Tech2 Solutions, a critical subcontractor that supports the Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) Water Program. Her work focuses on surface water quality monitoring and compliance, as well as Clean Water Act regulations for N3B.

She will be introduced by our own Kristin Henderson who is the director of N3B’s Stakeholder Affairs program. Kristin will give a brief overview to help us better understand the entirety of N3B and EM-LA’s legacy environmental cleanup mission.

Amanda  has over 20 years of experience in water resources, water quality, and hydrology, 14 of which have been spent at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).  White has extensive knowledge regarding corrective actions engineering design and field implementation, which is an essential part of any U.S. EPA National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program. For example, she orchestrated and finalized the development of storm water background values for the Pajarito Plateau that has no precedent in New Mexico and is currently developing a scientifically and economically sound strategy to monitor Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in surface water.

Before joining Tech2 Solutions, White worked for LANL as an Environmental Scientist responsible for field execution of surface water monitoring. Her work included managing and implementing the existing streamflow and precipitation gaging station network and radio telemetry. This included developing strategies and executing plans to effectively respond to new water quality regulations that can affect compliance for a variety of surface water programs.

Amanda earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Old Dominion University, as well as a master’s degree and a doctorate degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.N3B manages the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Environmental Management’s Los Alamos Field Office. N3B is a limited liability company owned by HII Nuclear, a subsidiary of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), and BWX Technologies. She has over 20 years of experience in water resources, water quality, and hydrology, 14 of which have been spent at LANL.
