The 2021 Jim Sims Memorial Engineering Scholarship has been awarded to Los Alamos High School graduate Konstantin Nelson. The scholarship was created to honor long time Los Alamos resident and Los Alamos National Laboratory engineer Jim Sims.

Sims worked for 34 years at LANL as a design engineer and leader of project engineering teams. Sims was a gifted Mechanical Engineer with a distinguished career. He was essential to the success of highly visible programs that have enhanced the scientific and engineering reputation of the Laboratory. Sims was also committed to mentoring young engineers, designers, and students, generously sharing his knowledge and experience.

Konstantin Nelson is the son of Andy and Anna Nelson. He will attend Texas A & M University in the fall where he will major in engineering.

The Jim Sims Memorial Engineering Scholarship is administered by the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation, an independent organization which serves as the connection between our community and school district, evaluating needs and investing resources to improve the quality of public education in our community.
