Have a great adventure with the Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s (PEEC) summer camps and clubs! Starting in June, PEEC is offering a variety of camps and clubs for kids entering 1st through 12th grades. From mountain biking, to gardening, to outdoor adventures, your children will love exploring the outdoors with PEEC educators. Participants will learn about local wildlife, make new friends and have fun outside.

PEEC will be offering the following camps and clubs:

Forest Explorers

June 2 – 16, Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Grades 1 – 3 and 4 – 6

This three-hour drop-off program provides the opportunity for kids to go on hikes from the nature center for self-directed play in the canyons, creeks and surrounding forest. Children will build forts, make observations and learn to identify different plants and animals.

Intro to Mountain Biking on Los Alamos Trails

June 1 – July 1, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 2 – 4 p.m.

Grades 7 – 12

Explore mountain biking trails around Los Alamos with a fun group of middle and high schoolers. This club will meet at different trailheads each day and participants will ride for about 2 hours.

PEEC Buds Garden Club

June 8 – Aug. 10, Tuesdays, 3 – 5 p.m.

Explore summer gardening in the nature center’s raised beds! Through fun, hands-on outdoor activities, children ages 7 – 10 will enjoy planting, tending to plants and harvesting crops over the course of eight weeks.

Nature Odyssey

Week 1: June 21 – June 25, Week 2: June 28 – July 2; Monday – Friday; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Grades 4 – 6

Explore the wonders of nature with PEEC’s all-day Nature Odyssey camp! This camp meets for two weeks and participants can register for one or both sessions of Nature Odyssey. Participants will meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center and explore the natural world through hikes, hands-on activities and guest speakers. A highlight of the first week of camp will include a field trip into the Jemez Mountains! Part of the focus of the second week will be sustainability topics, like zero waste habits, composting, creative crafting and water and energy conservation. A highlight of the second week will be field trips on Wednesday and Friday.

Living Earth Adventure Program

Week 1: June 21 – June 25, Week 2: June 28 – July 2; Monday – Friday; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Grades 7 – 8

Join PEEC’s Living Earth Adventure Program for fun in the wonderful outdoors of Los Alamos. This camp will meet at Pajarito Mountain each day, weather permitting. Campers will hike and explore the trails on and around the mountain while learning about our local ecosystem and wildlife.
