Los Alamos Family Council Offers Bulk Shredding Saturday As Fundraiser

FAMILY COUNCIL NEWS

November promises to be a busy month for Los Alamos Family Council! This Saturday, Nov. 7, LAFC will be hosting two hours of bulk shredding as a fundraiser for the mental health services provided at the Counseling Center.

The shred event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. outside LAFC at 1505 15th Street, Suite C. We will be using signs and cones to direct folks turning off Nectar street into the parking lot between the Performing Arts Theater and Community Soccer Field (across from Pet Pangea).

LAFC staff and volunteers will direct traffic, assist in unloading boxes and bags of paper for shredding (following COVID Safe Practices), and loading the paper into the shredding truck where all paper items will be destroyed on site.

Suggested donation per box of shred is $15. There is no limit to number of boxes per person, but the shred truck capacity will determine the number of boxes that will be accepted.

“Los Alamos Family Council is offering an earlier time, and discounted rate, to local nonprofits as part of this effort,” LAFC Executive Director Jordan Redmond said. “We want this event to be of value to all parts of the community.”

This event will help launch a new service Los Alamos Family Council will be offering through the Counseling Center: art therapy. LAFC recently hired Marianne Elden, an art therapist trained at Southwestern College in Santa Fe. In addition to art therapy, Elden specializes in addiction and substance abuse counseling and co-occurring disorders. Elden sees children as young as 10.

“Marianne is an exciting new addition to our team,” Redmond said. “Marianne joins an ever-growing team of excellent therapists – and the addition of art therapy to our services is wonderful”.

LAFC serves Los Alamos and surrounding communities through two programs: our counseling center and the youth activity centers. The funding raised during this event will directly support mental and behavioral health services within the counseling center.
