The League of Women Voters of Los Alamos County has now released two videos of the candidate forums they held on October 1 and October 5. These videos can be found on the League of Women Voters (LWV) website at this link: lwvlosalamos.org or directly at this one: https://my.lwv.org/new-mexico/los-alamos/article/view-candidates-forums

Every candidate answered specific questions about their positions on pertinent local and state-wide issues.

The October 1 candidate forum included the candidates for the Public Regulatory Commission District 3, Libertarian Christopher B. Luchini and Democrat Joseph M. Maestas, and the candidates for the Public Education Commission District 4, Laura Burrows, Libertarian, and Rebekka Burt, Democrat. The candidates for the State Senate District 5 also spoke: Leo Jaramillo, Democrat, and Lee Weinland, Libertarian.

The October 5 candidate forum included the candidates for House District 43, Christine Chandler, Democrat, and David Hampton, Republican. The candidates for Los Alamos County Council also spoke, including James Rickman, Libertarian, Denise Derkacs, Democrat, Aaron Walker, Independent, Rodney Roberson, Democrat, Sean Williams, Democrat, and David Reagor, Republican.

Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the LWV could not hold their typical well-attended forums in person. Forums this year were conducted via Zoom. This new format allows every voter the chance to view and learn from the forums, by clicking on the links mentioned above.

The LWV urges every voter to study the Voter’s Guide, published by the LWV, and to vote safely, given the pandemic. In Los Alamos County early voting has begun at the Municipal Building. Absentee ballots have also been mailed out. If you have questions about voting during this election, please contact call the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office, (505) 662-8010.
