Even though the traditional Homecoming festivities are not able to happen this year, the Los Alamos High School Student Council has planned some fun for students as they host
Stay@Home-Coming this week, Sept. 28 – Oct. 3.
They came up with some creative ways for students to come together and celebrate. Instead of trying to crush the Espanola Sundevils or the Taos Tigers, we’re going to CRUSH THE COVID!
Members of Student Council have also coordinated Toppers so they can have evening game breaks, earn class points with class competitions like “ROCK Hide and Seek” with the Topper Spirit Rock, join in a school-wide Kahoot trivia game on Thursday, cruise down Diamond Drive on Friday, and have their own dance party on Saturday.
Spirit Days started on Monday with Jersey/Sports Team Day and the popular Tacky Tourist Day on
Tuesday. The rest of the week includes:
• Wednesday: Culture/Country Day
• Thursday: Freshmen dress like Fall, Sophomores dress like Winter, Juniors dress like Spring and
Seniors dress like Summer
• Friday: Green/Gold Day
The elementary schools, middle school and Online Academy have joined the celebration with their own spirit days and other events.
The Stay@Home-Coming court members are Elizabeth Atencio, Michaela Gonzales, Ella Hailey, Jenna Harris, Tia Hartzol, Angel Sanchez, Noah Bridgewater, Sam Castille, Max Corliss, Mason D’Andrea, Konstantin Nelson and Leeson Weaver. They continued the tradition started last year with “Court for a Cause” where the court choses a local need to raise funds. “We are so proud of our Student Leaders who planned Stay@Homecoming during this unpredictable time,” said Student Council co-sponsors, Lynn Ovaska and Rebecca Jones. “Despite all the challenges, our young people are doing their best to make this a positive school year for all Toppers. We are grateful to our LAHS Admin team and LAPS district leadership who have looked for safe ways to make things happen this week.
