PEEC Announces Passport Prize Pickup And Nature Playtime Naturalist Kits

As summer comes to an end and fall begins, the Pajarito Environmental Education Center has a few fun activities and events to offer our community! We know that many of you have been working hard on your Passport to the Pajarito Plateau or Take It Outside Summer Nature Challenge over the past few months and that some families are looking for new activities and fun as we enter the fall.

PEEC wants the hikers and summer nature challenge participants out there to earn their rewards! Stop by the Los Alamos Nature Center on Thursday, Sept. 3 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. or on Saturday, Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. for walkup pickup to collect your Passport prizes or Summer Nature Challenge stickers! PEEC also has a limited supply of bear bells and mini hand sanitizers leftover from Bear Festival, courtesy of Century Bank, that they will be giving out as well.

You can also help your child learn about the natural world while playing outside this year by signing up to receive PEEC’s new seasonally themed nature playtime naturalist kits. The first kit for September is available to order now and will focus on birds. Participants will get materials and naturalist information for four activities to be completed each week of the month. They can also join PEEC’s private Facebook group where a PEEC educator will help introduce the activities and allow time for children to share their discoveries, while connecting with other children receiving the kits. Kits include materials for crafts, wildlife identification, movement games, stories, scavenger hunts and science experiments. Activities can be completed at home or at a nearby natural area. PEEC’s September kits can be picked up at the Los Alamos Nature Center on Tuesday, September 8 from 12 – 1 p.m. or 5 – 6 p.m. or delivered to your home.
