County Accepting Applications To Complete Term Of BPU Vacancy

Los Alamos County is currently accepting applications to complete the term of one vacancy on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU). The term expires in one year: June 30, 2021.  Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 3. Candidates must be available to be interviewed on either July 6 or 7 by a committee, and July 14 by the County Council at the council meeting.  The successful candidate appointed by the Council begins serving on July 15, which is the next regularly scheduled BPU meeting.

Comprising five voting members, the BPU governs the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), a county-owned utility that provides Los Alamos with electric, water, natural gas and wastewater services.  Interested parties can complete the online application at https://ladpu.com/BPUApplication.  All applications for Los Alamos County Boards and Commissions are now submitted electronically online.  Hard-copies are not available.  If you require assistance to complete an application, please contact DPU staff at (505) 662-8132 or jaime.kephart@lacnm.us.

 

Members of the BPU work together with the DPU to serve and represent the interests of the community.  Through policy direction, the BPU guides DPU’s senior management to realize its mission to create a high-performing utility, matched to the community, contributing to its future with diversified and innovative utility solutions.  BPU meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Avenue, Los Alamos, NM.

To qualify for consideration, interested applicants must be 18 years or older, be a resident of Los Alamos County for a minimum of one year prior to appointment, be registered to vote, not hold public office nor be an employee of the County government, and not conduct any business with the DPU except as a consumer.  Please note that no Los Alamos County board shall have more than a simple majority of members registered in the same political party.
