COUNTY NEWS

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities was notified that an individual who does not work for the department, represented himself as an employee to a customer last weekend and requested access to the customer’s meter.

DPU warns customers to be wary of individuals impersonating DPU employees after hours.  Routine utilities work, including meter reading, is conducted Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. DPU field crews, including meter technicians, wear uniforms with the county logo and have county identification.

An employee from the DPU may visit a customers’ property after hours or during the weekend if responding to a utilities emergency, such as a natural gas leak, water break, power outage or sewer backup.

If citizens are uncertain if an individual is an employee of the DPU, they are advised to call the department at (505) 662-8333 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or police dispatch at (505) 662-8222 after hours or on the weekend.
