The next Voices of Los Alamos meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday (May 18) features Marco Serna, First Judicial District Attorney for Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Rio Arriba Counties. Serna will address what the role of District Attorney fulfills in our state’s capital and in our more rural communities. He is expected to share stories from the fight against the opioid epidemic, the legislative challenges his office faces, and his recent trip to the Navajo Nation to bring relief supplies.
On Tuesday evening (May 19) VOLA is hosting former CIA Covert Operations Officer Valerie Plame who swill speak about her experience with the CIA working on national security and nuclear non-proliferation.
Serna and Plame are both candidates for Congressional District 3. Several candidates for CD3 asked Voices to host them and the VOLA leadership agreed that we’d have them speak about their area of expertise and not use the time to campaign.

Serna graduated from St. Michael’s High School in 2001 and received his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and Public Administration from the University of Arizona in 2005. He earned his Juris Doctor Degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2008. He has a distinguished career serving as an Assistant Attorney General prosecuting Medicaid fraud and elder abuse. He later served as an Assistant District Attorney in Valencia and Sandoval Counties where he prosecuted domestic violence and DWI misdemeanor offenses. He currently serves as First Judicial District Attorney for Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Rio Arriba Counties.
Plame and her family chose to move to Northern New Mexico – specifically Santa Fe – in 2007, after being in the national spotlight because senior officials in the Bush White House betrayed Plame’s covert CIA identity. After living and working around the world for the CIA, Plame finally felt she and her family had found a home. While at the CIA, Valerie worked to protect America’s national security. She helped prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, specifically nuclear weapons. She managed top-secret covert programs designed to keep terrorists and rogue nation states from acquiring nuclear weapons.
