N3B Donates $100,000 to Northern New Mexico College President’s Eagle Fund

Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) and Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) announced today a $100,000 gift to the NNMC President’s Eagle Fund.

“We have been collaborating with Northern on an apprenticeship program for nuclear operators since 2017,” said N3B President Glenn Morgan. “In that time, we’ve learned Northern students face many barriers to education that scholarships can’t address. The Eagle Fund will.”

Northern created the President’s Eagle Fund in 2019 to provide immediately accessible funds to support critical student success initiatives and address the challenges many students face in pursuing higher education.

“Northern is very grateful for our ongoing partnership with N3B and their generous lead gift of $100,000 to the President’s Eagle Fund,” NNMC President Rick Bailey said. “Thanks to their support, we are able to provide food to students who need it, and equip them with the technology they need to continue their education during these challenging times.”

Morgan added that the N3B gift is providing Chromebooks to students without access to technology and supporting Northern’s creation of an on-campus food pantry and clothing closet.

“The N3B gift, along with those of our fellow donors, is helping students overcome barriers to education, which is more important now than ever. That’s why N3B decided to lead the charge in helping Northern reach its goal of $250,000 to support student success,” Morgan said.

The N3B 96-week Apprenticeship Program for nuclear operators at Northern begins its second year this summer. In addition to providing valuable skills, N3B hires the students in the program as full-time N3B employees, providing them with a competitive salary and benefits, as well as funds for tuition, books, fees and other materials.

N3B is a limited liability company owned by HII Nuclear, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, and BWX Technologies. N3B manages the $1.4 billion, 10-year Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Environmental Management, Los Alamos Field Office.
