In response to safety concerns about drivers speeding through the NM502 Road/Roundabout Construction Work Zone, Los Alamos Police Department officers will begin increasing enforcement efforts this week.

Motorists are reminded that the work zone speed limit is 25 mph and fines double if a driver is ticketed within the zone. Allow extra time and expect delays during peak commuter hours morning and evening, Monday through Friday.

Construction workers must work in very close proximity to the roadway as they wrap up work for this construction season over the next two months installing utilities infrastructure. Speeding within the work zone causes hazardous work conditions for workers, pedestrians or bicycles in the area who may be traveling along sidewalks, and other vehicles.
