Los Alamos High School teacher, Stephanie Mitchell, is a finalist for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. 

Mitchell has been teaching biology at Los Alamos High School for over 13 years. She was recently named the Outstanding Biology Teacher for New Mexico by the National Association of Biology Teachers. 

A total of seven award recipients will be selected over the next several weeks. This year, 88 teachers were nominated from 26 different New Mexico communities.

The award includes induction into the Golden Apple Academy of Fellows, a generous professional development fund and a cash prize.

The seven eventual awardees will be recognized at the Golden Apple Tribute to Teacher Excellence in Albuquerque on April 3, 2020.
