Allied Tree Services, under contract with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, began this week trimming trees from around power lines on Meadow Ln. and intersecting streets between Rover Blvd. to Overlook Park in White Rock. Crews will work through this neighborhood until mid-August and then move to the Grand Canyon Dr. area.
According to DPU officials, the tree trimming effort is to reduce power outages by removing branches and trees that are either too close to power lines or pose a risk of falling on power lines. Trimming trees coupled with an aggressive operation and maintenance program supports the Electric Reliability Plan (developed in 2011 and updated in 2014) to reduce the number and scope of power outages in the county.
Tree trimming efforts will continue through the summer months. If residents observe tree branches interfering with power lines, DPU encourages they report is to the Customer Care Center at 505-662-8333 or CustomerCare@lacnm.us. Crews will investigate and address the situation as necessary.
The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) operates the county-owned electric, gas, water & wastewater systems under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Utilities. Meetings of the Board are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Avenue. The public is welcome. DPU is funded by rates paid for electric, gas, water and wastewater services and auxiliary fees, and has provided the community with these services for more than 50 years.
