SCIENCEFEST NEWS

The time of year has arrived when we celebrate the hard work and innovation of a community of educators, with ScienceFest 2019. Los Alamos MainStreet and the Creative District with the duo of Kate Cleveland and Jennifer Loveless, unofficially dubbed Loveland, have gotten things off to a great start.

Cleveland, along with the rest of the LACDC squad have formed a team effort behind the planning and execution of this year’s events. Their tireless crews are eager to energize visitors, vendors, and patrons to partake of their six-day event. The interactive demonstrations and hands-on fun begins with “Twas the Night Before ScienceFest” Kick-off Party on Tuesday, July 9. Cleveland is almost more excited about the kick-off event than Discovery Day, well almost.

The Kick-off Party is new to ScienceFest this year and incorporates the Tuesdays @ The Pond series into our six-day festival,” said Cleveland. “The Hill Stompers always bring incredible colors and energy, Circus Jam will be there for breathtaking entertainment, and if that wasn’t enough, the Fractal Foundation is coming up from Albuquerque to display and educate all of us about their new digitally printed fractal hot air balloon!”

Everyone on Team ScienceFest is thrilled with the various community partners that have stepped up again this year for their support, partnership, and collaboration. PEEC will host a variety of ScienceFest events at the Nature Center, as well as planning and executing the Electric Vehicle Show which will be along Central Avenue this year.

“They truly are a great group of people to work with and without them, I don’t think ScienceFest would have the depth of strength it has this year,” Cleveland said.

Twas the Night Before ScienceFest, kicks off at 6:30pm on Tuesday, July 9, at Ashley Pond Park. Wednesday evening, PEEC will host a Summer Family Evening:Water Works, featuring Explora, at the Nature Center. Thursday, July 11, DisrupTECH will be at Cottonwood on the Greens from 1-4pm followed by a Science on Tap featuring UbiQD at projectY cowork starting at 5:30pm.
