On Saturday, June 15, PEEC is partnering with New Mexico Historic Sites for a community picnic at Los Luceros Historic Site in Alcalde. Then, PEEC is hosting a Father’s Day hike to Guaje Canyon Overlook on Sunday, June 16.

The community picnic at Los Luceros will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and families are welcome to come and go throughout the day. This event will be themed around gardens and flowers and PEEC educator Denise Matthews will have hands-on activities for kids to enjoy. This event is free to attend and no registration is required. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at this beautiful property.

PEEC is also hosting a hike to Guaje Canyon Overlook on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16. Participants can meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center at 9:45 a.m. or at 10:00 a.m. at the far end of the Pajarito Mountain Ski Area parking lot for this outing. This will be an eight-mile hike, round trip that winds through Ponderosa Pine forests, wide meadows and burned areas of various intensity. The overlook offers views of Los Alamos townsite, Valles Caldera National Preserve and Guaje Canyon. The group will stop for lunch at the overlook and finish hiking at about 3 p.m. Registration is required for this outing and admission is $8 per family or $4 per person for PEEC members or $10 per family or $5 per person for non-members. Space is limited for this event.
