LAPD NEWS

Los Alamos Police Department is warning local residents about a current phone scam where the caller claims to be with the Los Alamos County Sheriff’s Office and demands payment of fines.

Cmdr. Oliver Morris said Friday afternoon that people should not respond to these types of calls and should hang up on the caller immediately.

Law enforcements usually advise the public that they will never receive a phone call telling them their is a warrant for their arrest or they need to pay fines. Those matters are handled by paper documentation and typically arrive in the mail or are served by a uniformed officer.

Nobody should ever agree to meet someone who calls and demands cash payment.
