LAFRW Announces 2026 U.S. Constitution Essay Contest

Since 2015, local students have been winning cash for their essays. The U.S. Constitution Essay Contest is designed to challenge students to learn more about the U.S. Constitution and to express original, thoughtful ideas in essay writing. Essays are judged on how completely and clearly the ideas are stated and supported. Grammar, spelling and punctuation are also considered. The judging is blind.

Students in grades 4-12 who reside in or attend school in Los Alamos County may enter. Winners will receive cash awards:

$400 high school

$200 middle school

$100 grades 4-6

Entries are due no later than 5 p.m. Friday, April 10. Entries should be placed in the box marked “U.S. Constitution Essay Contest” at Aspen Copies, 1907 Central Avenue, Los Alamos. Winners will be notified by April 18.

The Awards Ceremony will take place at the Freedom Tea at Fuller Lodge on Saturday, April 25, 2:00-4:30 pm. Along with their families, the winners are invited to attend the dinner at no cost. The winners will be invited, but not required, to read their essays at the dinner.
