PEEC NEWS RELEASE

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) will celebrate Los Alamos ScienceFest with its  annual Electric Vehicle Show and Solar Car Racing.

The event is Saturday, July 13 in the lot across Central between the Demo Garden and Los Alamos Police Station, northwest from Ashley Pond Park.

Event Highlights:

  • Electric Vehicles Display: Explore a variety of electric-powered vehicles and bikes. Speak with owners about their experiences, discover the different features and styles, and explore the options for electric transportation.
  • Electricity and Carbon Footprint Education: Learn where Los Alamos gets its electricity and how the carbon footprints of electric vehicles compare to gas-powered vehicles.

Activities:

  • Solar Car Races: Solar car races are 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Pick up a solar car kit from the Nature Center during open hours between July 8-12, or pick up and build a kit at the EV Show. All kits come with instructions, and participants are free to customize their car. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the races. Participants from last year’s ScienceFest are welcome to enter their cars.
