Los Alamos Magistrate Court To Host Law Day Open House May 1

MAGISTRATE COURT NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos County Magistrate Judge Catherine Taylor invites the community to participate in Law Day on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

In partnership with Los Alamos Municipal Court, the judges will host an open house between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Justice Center located at 2500 Trinity Drive. Visitors can learn about the different courts, ways to access online information, find statutes and procedural rules, and download forms. A District Court clerk will also be on hand to assist with District Court matters.

Law Day is recognized each year on May 1, and was established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to honor democracy’s commitment to the rule of law.

“We welcome the opportunity for people to learn more about the court system and its role in
maintaining democracy,” said Judge Taylor.

Magistrate Court handles state law violations including traffic citations; misdemeanors; felonies through preliminary hearing; landlord/tenant disputes; civil cases ($10,000 and under); and performs marriage ceremonies. The court is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is located on the second floor at the Justice Center, 2500 Trinity Drive in Los Alamos.
